Father's Day

We celebrated Jason's 2nd Father's Day this year but it really felt like the 1st because this year we weren't tired and overcome by "new parent" syndrome and could really, truely enjoy it. As I indicated on my previous post, my brother Dax took some incredible pictures of Maya while we were visiting in Saskatchewan and I had one in particular blown up and framed as a Father's Day gift for Jay. It lay hidden in the basement for almost two weeks and the anticipation of the whole thing was almost too much to take. I just knew he would love the gift and couldn't wait to give it to him. So we awoke early on Sunday morning as we usually do and we started the day with hugs and kisses and Father's Day wishes. We had to tend to Maya's breakfast first as she is a hungry girl in the morning but right after, we gave daddy his cards and gift. Maya's card was a big teddy bear and the arms of the teddy bear wrapped around the card and it said that for Father's Day she was giving him big bear hugs and kisses...from his little princess. He melted at the card...she has his heart in her little hands. Then we gave him the gift and he couldn't have been more surprised or excited. He just loved the picture and I was so pleased!
Here Maya is giving daddy his card and also giving it hugs.

After all the busyness of the morning, we put Maya down for her morning nap and I made Jason a lovely waffle brunch. In the afternoon we decided to take Maya swimming since the weather was cold and rainy. We expected the pool to be very crowded but to our surprise it was actually not very busy at all. So we were able to swim and enjoy ourselves all afternoon and it was a great way to spend the day. Here are some pictures of Maya in the pool. Our little fish...she just loves to be in the water.

Playing in the water fountain!

I love this picture. Here she is willingly sticking her face in the water to blow bubbles. Jason taught her how to do it and even though she doesn't start blowing until her face is out of the water, she sure tries hard to impress daddy.

Fun splashing!

Holding daddy's hand.

After the pool, we took Maya home, gave her dinner and a bath and put her to bed early as she was very tired from the long day. Then Jason and I had a little date night. I made him one of his favorite meals of stuffed manicotti and salad and we spent the rest of the night talking about how blessed we are to be Maya's parents, what a special daughter we have and also how thankful we were to have each other. Even after almost 10 years of marriage it still feels like we are on our honeymoon some days. We still love to cuddle, laugh hardest with each other and truely love being together. Yes, most days are filled with hectic schedules and a very active little girl but it's days like this that we cherish and thank God for the many blessings in our life, most important of which is our family.

The photo of Maya holding Jason's hand is very special -- It reminds me that I have a drawing of Jason's hand from when he was little - I should look it up and make a copy for you.

Thanks for all the wonderful memories via your blog.
