How can it be that 2 years have come and gone since our precious baby girl came to bless our lives? On April 29th, we celebrated another year milestone in the life of miss Maya! It was an emotional day for me realizing yet again that she is no longer my baby but the joy she brings us as she grows and learns and becomes more of who God intended for her to be, far outweighs any feelings of sadness. She is a bright, beautiful, kind, gentle and independent 2 year old and we celebrated all those traits and more.
On April 28th, we took Maya for her 2 year check up. She is a very healthy little girl and let the doctor do all her examining without a problem. The doctor even commented that she was the best behaved 2 year old she had seen in a long time - that certainly isn't the case all the time but I was proud of how good she was even after having to wait 30 minutes in the room, half naked, waiting for the doctor! She is just over 3 ft tall which puts her in the 95th percentile for height and 28 lbs which puts her in the 75th percentile for weight. Our midwives tell us that if you double a toddler's height at 2 years old, it is a good indicator of how tall they will be when full grown. Wow - we could have a girl as tall as her daddy one day!
Nanna and poppa came for a visit the week before her birthday which was a blessing for Maya. She just loves having family around and really enjoyed all the attention and cuddles that nanny and poppa shared with her. It was also nanna's birthday the weekend that they came, but nanna graciously shared the celebrations with Maya as they brought fun gifts and birthday hugs for her.
Grandma came to visit the week of Maya's birthday and was able to spend her birthday with us as well as help me with the birthday party with her friends. On the morning of the 29th, we greeted Maya with birthday wishes and captured it on video. She awoke happy and sweet as usual despite the fact that we woke up to a lot of SNOW!
Some of the highlights of the day were opening the purse and necklace from grandma.....
Opening her ball and glove from auntie Danielle, uncle Nolan and Linken (it also doubled as a hat).......
Baking her favorite blueberry muffins...........
And drawing at her new desk..........
We had a little party with a few of our closest friends on the following Saturday. Of course, Maya invited her bff Gracie (along with mom and dad Carrie and Jeremy) who also brought along her new baby brother Ben who was born only a few weeks previously. And her other favorite gal pal Callianna (and mommy Jenn) who Maya has known since she was born as Calli was born only a few weeks before Maya. In addition to her little playmates, auntie Lorrie and uncle Tom, Cody and Kaitlyn would not have missed this big day for Maya. Auntie Jenn and Grandma rounded out the crowd who came to celebrate our peanut's big day.
Here she is posing in her birthday dress and admiring her new "sandal shoes" from uncle Dax.
Memories from the day.....
The girls playing with one of Maya's favorite gifts - Strawberry Shortcake dolls. They smell yummy!
Waiting patiently for birthday cake - chocolate zucchini cake made with love by mommy!
Blowing out the candles and enjoying the cake!
We also captured a few videos from the day of singing Happy Birthday and eating birthday cake. It was the first chocolate cake she had ever eaten so from a chocolate loving mommy, it was worthy to be preserved. Enjoy!
Thanks to all our friends and family for making it such a special and blessed day!
