8 Months Old

Maya turned 8 months old on December 29th. Where has the time gone? It seems as though this past week has been a milestone week for Maya. She cut tooth number 8 (after a whole month of working on it) and we think she is working on her molars. She is drooling enough to literally SOAK a bib an hour and her cheeks are flaming red and hot. She has woken up a few nights recently with teething pain and although it seems way to early for her first year molars, she has proven already that she does not like to be predictable!
She is a very active baby but is not yet crawling (which is totally okay with mommy). She likes to move from her bottom to her hands and knees but then always ends up on her stomach. She does roll everywhere and pivots on her stomach so she's actually pretty mobile. But this week she took a few crawling "steps" on her hands and knees and likes to push herself up into a pushup position. Pretty cute.
Maya's personality is also developing. She is such a curious little girl and can get very serious when she plays with a new toy or tries to figure out how to make something work. But she is also such a happy baby. Her laughter often fills the room and she spends most of her time smiling at people and things and many times, herself in the mirror. She babbles all the time saying gagaga, or dadada and a few mamas here and there. She likes to wave "bye, bye" to friends and family and also started blinking responsively. If you stare at her and blink, then she blinks back. We love to be able to communicate with her more now as she responds to us.
And one of our favorite things is how much of a cuddlebum she is becoming. When she wakes up from a nap or if she is tired or sometimes for no reason at all, she snuggles her head into mommy or daddy's neck. It's our favorite time of day! This is Maya cuddling with Uncle Devin.
Here are some favorite pictures that we've taken recently:

Instead of jumping, Maya likes to just "hang out" in her jolly jumper and play with her feet. It makes us laugh.

8 Months today

These next two pictures are an example of how serious Maya can get when she is concentrating. We played a web video by a singer that our friend Bev introduced to us. His name is Eric Herman and he writes and sings children's songs with animated videos. (you can find him on utube). The songs are so great and Maya sat for a whole 3 minute song and just stared and listened. She LOVES music and will always stop what she is doing and turn her head towards any music. I think we will register her for gymboree music classes in January.

We head back to Calgary on January 1st. Although we have enjoyed our Christmas holiday in Saskatchewan, we are looking forward to being home.

Happy New Year!!
