Recently....

Now that Maya is walking, our life has definitely changed. She is such an adventurous little girl
and we seem to be running around after her all the time. She has gone from walking to running in a matter of days. She doesn't want to do anything slowly. Unfortunately, her leg muscles are not strong enough to support her need for speed and she has fallen quite a few times hitting her head on furniture. Thankfully our couches and ottomans are either fabric or leather which has softened her landings a bit but we haven't avoided scratches, bumps and bruises. Poor little thing.

I have continued to experience baby brain even though it' been 11 months since I had Maya. Sometimes I think I could write a book about all the crazy and, after the fact, funny things I have done lately. Most recently, I sent a package to my mom expresspost with the hopes that it would get there within a day or two. Two days later, Jay walks into the house and hands me the package. Why did it come back to me, I asked? Upon further inspection I see that I put my name in the "To" section and my mom's name in the "From" section. So I spent $9 to send it to myself and the post office is only a few blocks away!! Arg! Lately, I also accidentally put my good boot in the wash with our clothes and then when we were on our way out and I couldn't find my one boot, Jay jokes about how I probably threw it in the washing machine. To my horror, I opened the washer door to find it to be true. One very wet and soppy boot! Arg, Arg! At least I can laugh about it now.

Maya continues to explore the house and one of her favorite places is still the cupboards. She knows that she has one cupboard she is allowed to play in so she is constantly opening and closing the doors that are at her perfect height. It keeps her occupied!

One of my favorite things about having a daughter is the dress-up part. For now she lets me do her hair and put her in girly dresses and skirts. Who knows how long it will last so I am taking every opportunity to enjoy it. So pretty!

Last week, Maya and I went to visit an old friend of mine. She just had a baby 2 weeks ago so we brought her and her hubby dinner in exchange for some cuddles! Her little girl is so tiny. At 2 weeks old, she is still only 6 lbs 8 oz. Maya was never that small. She was 7 lbs 8 oz when she was born and by 2 weeks old, she was 9 lbs! To hold such a small little bundle was wonderful. It reminded me of when Maya was a little baby and I felt very nostalgic. Even though the first few weeks of motherhood were difficult adjusting to the total dependancy of this new little life, I remember that time with such fondness! At the end of our visit, my friend wanted to get some pictures of Maya holding the new babe. I was a little concerned at first because Maya is a very affectionate little girl and doesn't know her own strength. But perhaps she could sense that this baby was defenseless because she was so gentle with her and really seemed to enjoy being a big girl. I think she will make a very good big sister one day!

Maya turned 11 months old on Sunday March 29th. It will be the last "month" birthday that we celebrate before the big 1 year birthday. We took some pictures to commemorate the day.
As I said, she is a very affectionate little girl and loves to give hugs and kisses. She will often give me kisses without my asking by just holding my face in her hands and pulling my face towards her with her mouth open. Most of the time she will give daddy kisses but if not, all daddy has to do is give mommy and kiss and she is right in there ready for her kisses. She doesn't want to be left out. What a sweetheart!

Great post. I enjoyed reading. I like how you 'know' Maya as a person.

It's always hard seeing wounds on our babies faces. It's good to celebrate them as a mark of their independent and adventurous spirit.

I love it when you fill us in on the happenings of the Carter Clan. You are such an organized, disciplined person I still cannot believe that you mailed that parcel back to yourself. I did get it, finally, and am so glad I did. It was worth the wait. Well Miss Maya, this was the last of your monthly birthdays, next month the BIG ONE YEAR OLD!!! Can't wait to celebrate. Love you all.
