Quick trip to Saskatchewan

The past few weekends have been again, very busy, but they've been filled with visits from friends and family and that kind of busyness is always welcome. Last Saturday, Jason had a guys night out with some of his friends and so I invited all the girls and their kids over to our place for our own girls night. And a girls night it was.....it was funny but it just happened that the girls who have kids all have daughters. There was not a boy in sight. So we had a fun night of food, wine and laughs. It was a great night.

Sunday my sister Missy came for a visit from Crossfield. She hadn't seen Maya for a few months so it was great for them to get together again. She came over in the morning and got the spend the whole day with us. Maya and Missy played together and Maya seemed to really enjoy the one on one attention. It's nice that Maya has an auntie so close.

This past weekend was one of the busiest we've had in a while. We flew to Saskatoon on Saturday morning and flew back home to Calgary on Sunday afternoon. It was crazy but totally worth it and Maya did so well even with all the flying and staying in a hotel. She is such a social butterfly and just loves anytime that we go out regardless of how far or long. What a trooper. This was her 7th time flying (14th time if we count the round trips home) since she was born so I suppose she is used to us carting her around everywhere. The reason we went to Saskatoon was because my cousin Darcie got married and it was such a blessing to be able to be at the wedding and share in one of the happiest days of her life. Darcie has always been more like a sister to me so it was so wonderful to see her marry the man of her dreams and see her so very happy. After all that she has been through over the past few years with her mother passing away just a few short years ago and battling and winning her own battle with cancer this past year, I could not have been happier for her to finally find some peace and contentment. At her wedding, she had a tribute to her mom at their cake table and her brother sang the song he wrote after their mother passed away. Every time I hear the song it reminds me that we have a choice to remember the good things in our life even in the midst of sadness. The song lyrics talk about how when their mother was struggling with her illness and in bed for days on end, eyes and nose running and weary to the bone, they chose to remember the times they brought her breakfast in bed, and how her nose would run and eyes would be teary and body sore after a fun family day on the ski slopes. The illness had taken over her body but not her spirit and their family is an example of how to be grateful to the very end. What a beautiful sentiment to surround the beauty of their wedding day!

So I, of course, had to go shopping for a new party dress for Maya for the wedding. I found the cutest little pink dress that wasn't too dressy so she'll be able to wear it this spring/summer too. Here she is modeling it. I love how her little feet are crossed at the ankles and it actually looks like she is doing a little curtsy. I sure hope this is a sign of more girly days to come.

We also took the opportunity to dress up and get some family pictures. Here are a few of my favorite. Maya also turned 10 months old that weekend so it was a wonderful way to celebrate another month of her life!

Hey, you are an incredible writer, unlike your mother. I really enjoyed your description of the wedding day and I love the family pictures. and Yes Dax does take much better pictures than I do. Miss Maya was absolutely beautiful and so were her parents. Love you all and can't wait to see you all again.

I am so happy to know that Darcie is happy -- and that the wedding went off so beautifully == Maya looks wonderful in her attire - and the pics of your family are awesome too. I agree with your mom - you are awesome at putting memories on paper!!!

Love Mom

Oh Maya looks so beautiful in that dress. What fun to have a girl. I enjoyed seeing the wedding pics on facebook too. How special that your aunt was honored at the wedding in such a special way.
