At Baba's House

We spent some very special holiday time at my grandma's house this summer.  When I was a little girl, I was fortunate enough that my grandma & grandpa's mothers were still alive and as we are a Ukrainian family, the great-grandmas were "babas" to all the grandkids.  They were special people in our life and I am fortunate that my grandma is now a great-grandma, a baba, to Maya.  At almost 81 years old, baba is still going strong and spent some quality time with Maya this summer. She still goes for walks every day and tends to her large garden in the summer.  Her life is driven by her love for her family and every time it grows larger, her heart grows fuller and I am so blessed to witness her deep commitment to caring for her family.  She just loves spending time with little Maya and took every opportunity to do so when we were in Prince Albert for our holidays.  She wanted to take Maya for a walk in the park and show her the route that she walks every day.  It was a beautiful day and baba was able to keep up with all of us - or should I say we were able to keep up with her!!

Getting ready to head out on our walk.  We took her favorite car from Auntie Lorrie to SK with us and it was a very good idea!  Her favorite mode of transport!

One of the things that Maya loves to do most is explore.  She is always up for any adventure and LOVES to try new and exciting things.  So what better adventure than into the fun and magical land of baba's garden.  Her next favorite thing to do is eat and she definitely had her feast of fresh garden veggies while we were there.  Here are some fun pics of her playing in the back yard and visiting baba's garden.

One of the blessings in disguise about having a toddler is that they make you slow down your life.  You can't rush a toddler; they want to inspect every bug and get excited about a storm drain and always want to stop and smell the roses.  I look at the innocence of her excitement at discovering a new sight, sound, smell or texture and learn to delight with her.  She teaches us something new every day!  What a blessing!

These are some of my favorite pictures of her in the very large and beautiful garden!  Can you spot Maya in the right picture?

Maya had a lot of fun picking and eating all the yummy veggies from the garden.  So healthy and tasty!

We were very blessed to have been able to spend time at baba's house this summer.  We are so thankful that Maya has been able to know her baba who loves her very much and experience that same joy of attention and love that my babas also gave unconditionally to me.  Family is so important to us and we are thankful that our time with baba was so very special.

Well, I read your blog and called Baba. I asked her to bring kleenex!!!As I read your words she was so moved she cried and just kept thanking me for being next door and for her to be able to come over and see all the pictures of Maya and kept commenting on how articulate you are. She loves to take care of her family and the affirmation makes her want to keep doing it, even at her age. Thanks Bran for making Baba so happy.

That was a wonderful post Brandee. Even though I've never met her, your description of your Baba brought tears to my eyes too! It is so important to speak words of affirmation.

I loved the pictures of Maya exploring the flowers, and when she's looking back over her shoulder in her car.

Your words capture your love for your Baba and family so beautifully. I am very glad that Maya is able to spend time with her. Those moments are treasures worth more than anything.

Blessings.
